Indiana John

As promised, some pics of the artifacts from the ancient dump that is my front yard.

The little round thing is a porcelain liner that was placed over milk cartons in the late 1800s (I just found that in this afternoon’s dig).

When my family moved to our farm back in 1973, it was an amazing experience to wander around the 160 acres we’d acquired. There were many old pieces of farm machinery, a very old truck that I’m guessing was built in the 30’s, and this very strange sort of dump about 100 feet behind our house. In the dump, my brother and I discovered such a variety of old bottles, ceramic containers and similar items, it was really quite astounding.

Of course, being six years old, my natural instinct was to smash everything in sight. It was years later as an adult that I realize that stuff had real value.

Oh well, it was loads of fun at the time.

Alright Mr. Parkwalker, how were your Muir-ist forest amblings? Did you make time to sketch a bird or two whislt running a sub-8 50? Or were you too busy waxing poetic about red maple leaves and cheeky gray squirrels to get in under 8? Inquiring minds want to know what a 2:3X marathoner can do out in the ultraworld. :)
